Quick answer

Is Yoga Nisarga a legitimate yoga school?

Yes. Yoga Nisarga is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School (RYS 200), founded in 2007 by Swami Chaittanya Hari, with more than 1,000 graduates. Its own centre is in Mandrem, North Goa. You do not have to take our word for it: check the Yoga Alliance directory and read independent reviews on Google, BookRetreats and Trustpilot.

Key takeaways
  • Founded in 2007 by Swami Chaittanya Hari, who still leads the school as Founder and Director (E-RYT 500).
  • Registered with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga School at the 200-hour level (RYS 200).
  • More than 1,000 people have trained with us since 2007.
  • Reviews you can read on sites we do not control: Google, BookRetreats and Trustpilot.

Before you send a deposit to a school in another country, it is sensible to ask whether it is real, who runs it and what other students say. This page answers those questions about us. We are Yoga Nisarga, so we wrote it, and we have an interest in the answer. To keep it useful, every fact below links to somewhere you can check it or is labelled as our own figure, and we say plainly who our course does not suit.

Who runs Yoga Nisarga?

Swami Chaittanya Hari founded Yoga Nisarga in 2007 and still leads it as Founder and Director. He holds the E-RYT 500 designation, one of Yoga Alliance’s two experienced-teacher levels (E-RYT 200 and E-RYT 500). His name has a double “t”; some older listings spell it “Chaitanya”, which is the same person. You can read his background on his teacher profile and on our About page.

Is Yoga Nisarga registered with Yoga Alliance?

Yes. Yoga Nisarga is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level (RYS 200), and the registration is current. Yoga Alliance registers schools and teachers; it does not run courses itself. After completing our 200-hour course you receive a certificate of completion, and you can then apply to Yoga Alliance to register as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200). To check us, search for “Yoga Nisarga” in the Yoga Alliance directory. A school that cannot be found there is not registered, whatever its website says. If any listing of ours shows an older address, the Mandrem address on this page is current.

Where is Yoga Nisarga?

Our own centre is in Mandrem, North Goa, India, near La Blanca Resort Junaswada in Junos Vaddo, about a five-minute walk from Mandrem Beach. The full postal address is Junos Vaddo, Mandrem, Goa 403527. You can see it on our Google reviews listing. We also run 21-day teacher trainings on Koh Samui in Thailand and near Ubud in Bali.

What does it cost, and what is included?

The 21-day, 200-hour teacher training in Goa costs €1,400 without accommodation or meals, or €1,800 to €2,300 with a room and three vegetarian meals a day, Monday to Saturday, depending on the room. Every plan includes the training manual and the certificate of completion. Our Goa cost guide lists every room option. The location comparison gives the Bali and Thailand fees; residential plans there include two meals a day. Before you pay, ask us for the written payment, cancellation and refund terms for your dates.

What do students say about Yoga Nisarga?

Read our reviews where we cannot edit them. Our Google reviews are attached to the Goa centre. BookRetreats publishes reviews from students who booked through it, and Trustpilot hosts more. Read the critical reviews as well as the good ones: they tell you what to ask us before you book. If a review raises something that worries you, ask us about it directly.

Who is Yoga Nisarga not right for?

Our course suits people who already practise and want to teach or go deeper. It is probably not right for you if:

  • You have never practised regularly. We ask for 4 to 6 months of regular practice before a teacher training. Our guide to teacher training for beginners explains why.
  • Price is the only thing that matters. Some 200-hour courses in India cost less than ours. Compare what each fee includes: room, meals, manual and the teachers’ designations.
  • You want a holiday with some yoga. Twenty-one days of daily practice and study is demanding. A yoga retreat in Goa may suit you better.

Five questions to ask any yoga school before you book

These are the questions we would ask in your place, of us or of any other school:

  • Can I find you in the Yoga Alliance directory? Registration is public, so a real RYS can be checked in minutes.
  • Who is the lead teacher, and what designation do they hold? E-RYT 200 and E-RYT 500 are Yoga Alliance’s experienced-teacher levels.
  • What exactly does the fee include? Room type, meals per day, manual, certificate.
  • What are the cancellation and refund terms? Ask for them in writing before you pay.
  • What practice do you expect before the course? And how do you support students who arrive with less?
