With the growing popularity of yoga, it has become easy to find yoga accessories in your neighborhood yoga studio. However, it is also easy to get carried away by the stuff they offer and end up buying items that you don’t necessarily need. Hence, it is always helpful to know what the essentials things a yogi should carry are.
If you are not too particular about what the things a yogi should carry are, this list here should help you.
Yoga Mat
A Yoga Mat is one of the most basic things a yogi should carry. Yoga studios do sell and rent these out; however, everyone has their preference of texture, length, and thickness. Hence, you should carry something that makes you feel comfortable. It does not always have to be an expensive one, just one that makes you feel comfortable so that you can proceed to relax.
Breathable Clothing
Another essential thing a yogi should carry is his yoga attire. A lot of yoga studios make you practice in the open. The simple reason is to give you an ambiance that makes you comfortable and acts as a catalyst to help you relax. With that in mind, one of the most important things a yogi should carry is clothing in which he is comfortable. Some people prefer loose clothing that will help them move smoothly.
On the other hand, others find a loose, flowy dress a little distracting and prefer something that fits their form. Your choice could be anything. The only thing that matters is whether or not you feel at ease for your yoga session to be a success.
Yoga Videos
Some of us like to have yoga videos that guide us through our sessions. With the broad range of options that technology and the internet present, it is easy to be overwhelmed. The best practice would be to follow one particular teacher with who you can easily relate. If you want to be able to practice anywhere, your own set of yoga videos is another essential thing a yogi should carry.
Mat Towel
Depending on the style of yoga you practice, you are quite likely to sweat to some degree. And that can make your mat slippery impacting your yoga practice. Hence, a mat towel adds itself to the list of things a yogi should carry. An essential mat towel that will help you clean the moisture off your mat to keep you from slipping should fit the bill.
Props
Some of us use certain props during our yogic practice. For example, Ashtanga yoga will require the use of weights, straps, and blocks. Depending on what kind of yoga you practice, add these props to your list, and you will be well on your way.
So these were the basic list of items we think are must-haves for a yogi to carry as we advise during yoga teacher training in Thailand. Feel free to add items based on your needs and comfort, but try not to overload yourself too much.
